See the Divine light with in you

There is a story about a gullible person who was returning to his village from a distant place. As it was dark he lighted the lantern. As he was able to see only a distance of 6/7 meters with the lamp he was not ready to move on since his house was kilometres away. He was anguished and started crying. Another person passing by started laughing on hearing his agony. He told the foolish fellow that the light of the lantern will also move with him and he will be able to see the travelling path to reach home. The villager was so innocent and ignorant on this. When the other person explained the fact he came out of the darkness ( ignorance ) in his mind  and could move and reach  home. The villager was not able to see the light within him due to his ignorance.

We endeavour for our happiness. But mostly we end up with unhappiness. If we use our wisdom we can remove this unhappiness. In order to get happiness by any means we deviate from the moral principles and end up in agony. In such situations we forget to use our wisdom and only act upon our desires. An old dialogue between a Guru and his disciple is relevant here.

The disciple asked Guru , what is the best way to achieve  Moksha – The ultimate contentment ? In reply, Guru asked him; ‘How do you see the objects’. He told that in day time with the light from sun and in the night with moonlight. ‘How do you see the sun and moon ?’ asked the Guru. ‘ With my eyes ‘ was the reply. ‘ If you close your eyes , how do you understand the objects ?’ Guru continued the question. ‘ Using my wisdom’ was the reply. ‘ How do you conceive your wisdom ?’ – Guru. ‘ With my inner soul/mind’ – replied the disciple. Guru: ‘Understanding that self – what you came seeking lies within you. God lies within. ‘This is the content of the famous Upanishad statement  “Tattvamasi” – You are that.
